Day 1: How Deep is the Vegan Hole?

8:30 am - Missing my morning Babybel cheese :(. Already starting to think the price of saving our earth is TOO HIGH. Settling for my typical banana and almond butter instead.

10:00 am - Had to actually wait in line at Starbucks for a drip coffee just so I could get it with almond milk. Plus had to pay an extra $0.20 for it (which isn't bad I suppose). I feel like this week will just involve me realizing how much extra money you have to pay for non-dairy, non-meat products because it's not subsidized by the government.

10:05 am - Cam asks me if I can eat bread as a vegan. It actually causes me to pause - how far do you go as a vegan? Like if something is baked with eggs and butter - isn't that a no go? But also, isn't that every single enriched flour item? Answer: yes, most breads have milk, butter, or honey. But thankfully a lot of brands do have vegan bread options. Ex: Ezekial bread is made without any animal products (bless up bc this is what's in my freezer right now).

10:10 am - "I feel like as a vegan you have to be so careful about EVERYTHING you consume" - Cam. Ya, I'm 2 hours in and this seems like an exhausting task.

3:00 pm - Ten vegetable soup for lunch! Nothing new - I usually like to have soup for lunch anyway and Breadwinners Cafe is good about having vegetarian options. The vegan twist does eliminate the broccoli cheddar soup though. Dang this no cheese thing!

5:00 pm - Starving and have to go to ballet class. Toast (speaking of Ezekial bread...) and hummus works wonders but only for about 30 mins. Ugh - need a hard boiled egg! *tries to envision cute baby chicks and all of us suffocating from CO2. 5 mins later still craving egg.*

9:00 pm - Dinner is an odd assortment but delicious! Quinoa with cherry tomatoes, avocado, kidney beans, broccoli, peas and carrots. Hurrah! Made it as a vegan for a day. Only 6 more to go!
